[ Olyset Net ]Sumitomo Chemical's Olyset Net uses our hybrid polymer and insecticide technology to achieve a breakthrough in the global fight against malaria. Permethrin is incorporated inside the Olyset fibres to create a bed net guaranteed to last at least five years.* It is tear-proof, wash-proof, and never requires treatment.
The pyrethroid insecticide permethrin is a synthetic insecticide with a chemical structure similar to natural pyrethrins, which comes from a species of chrysanthemum. Because it poses minimal toxic risk to humans, Olyset is particularly valuable where babies and small children are concerned.

Olyset Net Fights Malaria“Africa’s best hope for preventing malaria”
Health organizations consider Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs) to be the most effective method of preventing malaria in endemic areas throughout the world.
Sumitomo Chemical developed Olyset Net by incorporating insecticide into the actual fibres of the net. In practice in Africa, we have found Olyset Nets lasting for more than seven years.
The Olyset Net is stronger than polyester nets, with innovative fibre technology that is almost impossible to tear. Because the insecticide is contained within the mesh fibres, Olyset Nets never need treatment. Olyset Net was the first LLIN to earn recommendation from WHO via the rigorous testing procedure known as WHOPES.
Sumitomo Chemical believes in the practical partnership of sustainable chemistry with sustainable development. Sumitomo Chemical’s approach to Olyset Net manufacturing also helps provide employment in endemic areas of Africa, as nets are manufactured and completed in local plants.
In 2004, Time Magazine said:
"Dangerous malaria-carrying mosquitoes in Africa may have a new foe: the next-generation Olyset bed net, which is made of a durable plastic weave impregnated with the insecticide permethrin and stays potent for five years."
